Cheong · Yeon · Jae was built in 1936 based on the traditional Korean house style and it was built with natural
materials such as wood, stone, and red clay. The frames of doors and windows are delicately covered with a unique type of
paper, “Hanji”, made from tree pulp, and the roof is topped by matte tiles called “Kiwa” which are made from processed soil.
Another interesting feature is the Korean traditional heating system: “Ondol”. When the solid stone platform under the soft flooring is heated up, the heat spreads up into every room of the house, keeping both the floor and the air warm and cozy during the winter.
The hotel’s structure is exactly based on the traditional structure, made up of the main building, a detached side building, the “servant’s” quarters, an open courtyard and also a beautifully aged brick wall which surrounds the whole vicinity. This place is truly the right place for a rest and an escape from the busy outside world.
